ARYA VAISHYA..

ARYA  VAUSHYA SAMAJ

Komati, also self identified as "Arya Vaishya", is a caste of the Telugu speaking community in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The people of this caste are mainly in business and trade activities.

Komatis are generally vegetarians. Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari Devi is the Goddess of Komatis

The Komatis are said to have originally lived and still live in large numbers on the banks of the Godavari River. One of the local names for it is Gomati or Gomti, and the Sanskrit Gomati for river is Godavari. So the people who lived on the banks are called as komati, corrupted in Telugu as Komati. Others say that the word comes from go-mati, meaning cow-minded.
